XU is UX backwards, but Hanna is not a palindrome.
I stumbled into product design in 2012 as an intern at Degas Media. Their mission was to bring easy to launch responsive websites to small businesses. It was here that I discovered my passion for mobile, UX design, and startups.
This led me to an early-stage startup, Locket, where I became their first hire, working on mobile adtech for a year. In 2014, I joined Tango, a social messaging unicorn, where I led Core Communications. My entrepreneurial spirit then prompted me to cofound FortyWings, and we sucessfully launched an iOS and Android messaging app.
When Buzz fizzled, I spent four years as the Head of Design at Gfycat, formerly one of the top 100 most visited websites in the United States, specializing in short-form videos and GIFs.
For the past four years, I've had the privilege of serving as a senior product designer at Apple. My current mission involves enhancing how brands and businesses present themselves within Apple's ecosystem.
I want to bring a bit of delight into the world and make things people love and use.
Outside of work, I love experimenting with my designs and closely collaborating with engineers. I’ve been to quite a number of hackathons and even won a few.
My life outside the screen has its own rewards. I hang out with a smart border collie mix that adores dog training (agility, obedience rally, tricks). I love food, indulge in calming video games, and have a collection of board games. I’m also active on design discords and do a little bit of mentoring on the side.
I created my portfolio with the basic HTML & CSS I learned poking around on Neopets as a kid. It’s hacked together but it’s uniquely mine 😊.
